Current Position: Home >> Benxi Overview>> Wonders of Nature   Benxi geothermal anomaly belt rarely known by people There is one geothermal anomaly belt in Huanren County stretching 15 kilometers long. The wonderful thing of it lies in the underground temperature change happens to be opposite to the natural temperature change. The obvious change takes place on the hills with 1000 meters long and 20 meters wide behind the house of Yingpangou resident REN Hongfu which is 1.5 kilometers away from Shajianzi Town Government on the south. More than 90 years ago, when REN Hongfu’s father was building the guard wall on the north one day, he was surprised to feel breezing wind coming from the exposed stone crack. Then he made a cave with less than 67 centimeters long and wide relatively and 83 centimeters deep at that position. Now, both the guard wall and the cave have been kept intact after more than 90 years. In summer, when the temperature on the ground goes up, the temperature inside the guard wall drops down dramatically. Hardly can people bear the cold wind for one or two minutes by standing 6 to 7 meters away from the entrance to the cave. The egg put into the cave will be broken and the sugar water in the glass will be frozen. In midsummer, the temperature of the cave lowers to -15°C leading to the formation of ice columns when rain flows in through stone crack. In freezing and snowy winter, spring is evident everywhere in the geothermal anomaly belt by giving out hot smoke and green grass. The vines of white gourd extend vigorously and leaves grow big. The oak tree used as the support for plastic greenhouse by REN Hongfu has sprouted and grown green leaves in recent years. Though geologists at the level of state, province and city have conducted lots of investigations on the abnormal phenomenon, the geothermal anomaly belt remains a mystery to the public.
