The

Magnolia sieboldii, also called Tiannuhua or
Xiaohuamulan, is a species of Magnoliaceae and belongs to
deciduous dungarunga. In general, the height of stem varied
from 3 to
6 meters with the longest one of 10 meters high. The branch
presents with the color of light grey. The bud in puce extends
about 1 centimeter long and grows with gentle hair and alternate
leaf. The length of petiole is 1.5 to 6 centimeters. The leaf
looks like in oval shape or long and round oval shape and
is about 7 to 25 centimeters long and 6 to 10 centimeters
wide. The stem is in the shape of circle or round wedge with
short tip at the end, green surface, white back and short
gentle hair. The diameter of flower reaches 8 to 10 centimeters
with stalk of 4 to 5 centimeters long and light pink bud.
The contours of 9 perianthes in white are oval or long and
round oval with 4 to 5.5 centimeters long and 2 to 3 centimeters
wide. Most stamens are in prunosus and in oval shape with
anther blooming inward. The shape of conocarpium in red is
oval with 4 to 6 centimeters long, 2 centimeters wide and
tip at the end. The seed is in yellow and in circle shape
with diameter of 6 millimeters. Flowering will last 6 months
and bearing fruit will be 9 to 10 months. The flower prefers
to grow in secondary broad-leaved forest, gloomy slope or
wet area in the valley. It is famous for the beautiful color,
great values for medical use and 0.2% perfume oil contained
in the leaf. Benxi Municipal Government has named magnolia
sieboldii as the city flower owing to its high ornamental
and economic value. |
